How to Wander Aimlessly

Jul 31, 2009 06:24 PM

Wandering can be a very relaxing, therapeutic experience. However, it can also be very exciting, invigorating, and interesting experience.

Find a day

Choose a day that will be slightly on the cold side to keep you on your toes. Reschedule any appointments or planned events you have that day.

Leave your watch and phone

Don't take these luxuries, they'll only deteriorate the experience.

Pack a small bag

See the "Things You'll Need" section for what to put in it.

Step outside.

Smell the air.

Start walking in any direction.

Let instinct and the wind guide you.

Do the opposite of what you think you should do.

Get lost.

Warnings

  • Be sure to pack enough food. (See "Things You'll Need" section.)
  • A small rifle or knife might be acceptable to bring in case of dangerous wildlife encounters.
  • Be sure to dress properly for the weather.

Things You'll Need

  • A small bag filled with:
  • Two bottles of water per day you'll be gone
  • Snacks to live on like granola bars or poptarts.
  • A book to read while taking breaks
  • A journal and pen to record your journey every night.
